I recently asked a few friends what they named their dog and why they chose that name.
Here are their responses:
Owner or pet’s connection to a specific origin:
- Tenoch- Aztec founder of Mexico City
- Nukka (nooka)- Inuit for “little sister”. Matches her heritage of Husky and Wolf.
Dog’s connection to physical attributes or personality:
- Freckles- He was black and white and had black spots randomly on his body and face.
- Dusty- He looks like he jumped out of a pile of dust.
- Maximus- He’s white like the horse in “Tangled”
- Chewy- He nipped our toes
- Bandit- He steals things and buries them in the backyard
- Pintobean- because he looks like one
- Eppie- has golden hair like the character names Eppie in a book.
Owner’s connection to a movie, book, famous person, etc:
- Dusty- from “Pure country”- Country movie and country dog
- Maximus- love Disney and that’s the horse’s name in “Tangled”
- Colt- Colt McCoy former UT quarterback
- Chewy- from Star Wars
- Eppie- from the book Silas Marner
- Max- from the Beatles song “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer”
- Max- from Goofy’s son Max
- Sparky- likes ASU and he has no hind legs.
It’s funny or cute:
- Pico de Gato
- Anderson Pooper
- Booger
- Suds
Owner’s personality:
- Sh$& and Da#% it (rage issues?)
Random reasons:
- Gus- so none of our children could be named that
- Osker- it was just him
- Toby- it’s a good dog name
- I Got Madd Skillz- whom was called Skillz. While growing up my dad raised pedigree Fox-trotter horses and they always had ridiculously long names. For example one was named Sultan’s Black Cloud Jubilation. It was a mouth full and I felt you might as well name one a sentence. I asked my dad if we could name our next colt Dougy’s Going To College! My dad said no. So when I grew up and got my own dog I came up with a cool sentence dog name, I Got Madd Skillz. She was a golden retriever, and she did have mad skills. :0)
What’s your dog’s name and why did you choose it?
